Neil Slams McCabe for Wasting Thousands on Foreign Jolly
Airdrie and Shotts MSP Alex Neil has heavily criticised North Lanarkshire Council Leader Jim McCabe for wasting thousands of pounds of taxpayers money on a needless trip to South Korea from 12th to 17th July.

Mr Neil said that Mr McCabe’s excuse for this “jolly” was to attend the International Children’s Games. But Councillor Jim Logue and a group of officials from the Council’s own company, North Lanarkshire Leisure, were also attending this event. There was absolutely no need for Councillor McCabe to go too. Mr Neil added:

“What makes this needless waste of public money even more insulting to local council taxpayers is that on his return Mr McCabe has promised to announce up to £100 million in cuts to essential services in North Lanarkshire. Instead of cutting education and social work budgets, which fund much needed support for local people, Mr McCabe should set an example and slash the amount of money he spends on himself and his cronies.

I totally support the funding of local children to attend these Games but Mr McCabe’s presence was not essential. Indeed while he was lapping it up in luxury seats on the plane the children were stuck in economy class; and while he treated himself to a luxury hotel, the children were consigned to the most basic accommodation, whilst in South Korea. It seems in North Lanarkshire Council there is one law for Mr McCabe and another for everybody else.

If he has any sense of decency Mr McCabe will refund the money spent on his trip to the Council’s coffers and apologise for his self-serving ineptitude.”
