Central Scotland SNP MSP Alex Neil is demanding an apology from First Minister Jack McConnell for the remarks attributed to him where he called two leading business people “idiots”.
Mr McConnell reportedly made his remarks about Ian Graham, a leading software specialist, and Janette Anderson, head of First Engineering at a meeting of Labour MSPs in response to mild criticisms made by Mr Graham and Ms Anderson at the Business in Parliament Conference which was jointly chaired by Mr Neil.
Mr Neil said:
“These comments by Jack McConnell are absolutely disgraceful. He has soured the Business in Parliament Conference which was an otherwise successful event and damaged relations between Scotland’s politicians and Scotland’s business community.”
”His comments smack of control freakery run riot. He has to be big enough to take some form of criticisms as First Minister. Instead he is left looking like a controlling council politico rather than the head of our country’s government. It is embarrassing to say the least.”
“I find it wholly unacceptable that our First Minister can behave in such a way and it is beholden upon him to try and repair some of the damage he has undoubtedly caused with these stupid remarks. He can start by publicly apologising to Ian Graham and Janette Anderson.” |
